The Muslim Lecturers Association (MLA), Nigeria, in collaboration with Northwest University, Kano, has announced plans to hold its second National Research Conference from November 3 to 6, 2025, with the theme: “Leveraging Research and Collaboration for Sustainable Economic Diversification and Social Transformation.”
According to a statement signed by the MLA President, Prof. Ahmed Adedeji, the conference aims to bridge the gap between academic research and national policy, positioning scholarly insights as a critical tool for Nigeria’s development.
Prof. Adedeji explained that the gathering is not just an academic exercise but a platform for generating actionable intelligence that can inform and transform policy in key sectors such as agriculture, governance, law, engineering, and education.
“Our nation stands at a crossroads, grappling with the urgent need for economic diversification and profound social change,” he said. “This conference is convening Nigeria’s brightest minds to generate evidence-based solutions that can directly inform national development.”
The Vice President of MLA and Chairperson of the Conference Organizing Committee, Prof. Khadijah Idowu, disclosed that discussions will cut across critical clusters including Law, Engineering, Agriculture, Social and Management Sciences, Media and Communication, and the Humanities.
“Our goal is to produce a compendium of policy briefs that will be actively presented to ministries, the National Assembly, and state governments,” she noted. “We want policymakers to engage not just as attendees but as partners in implementing our findings.”
The event will be chaired by Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, former Deputy Governor of Kano State and a recent MLA Fellowship Awardee, whose experience in scholarship and governance aligns with the conference’s objectives.
The MLA said the conference would also celebrate academic excellence through its Fellowship and Award of Excellence segment, which will honour renowned scholars and national figures such as Prof. Is-haq Oloyede and Prof. Babagana Umara.
