Nigeria launches landmark digital education drive for 47 million students, teachers

Millions of Nigerian pupils, students, and teachers are set to benefit from a groundbreaking digital education initiative after the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Digital Learning Network to provide laptops and tablets preloaded with learning content.

The National Digital Education Transformation Project aims to reach more than 47 million beneficiaries across pre-primary, primary, and junior secondary schools. The devices will come with interactive lessons, digital textbooks, and curriculum-aligned content designed to level the playing field for children in both urban and rural areas.

Officials say the initiative will bridge learning gaps, boost creativity, and expand access to quality education, effectively creating “classrooms without walls.”

UBEC will coordinate implementation nationwide, working with state governments and the Federal Capital Territory to ensure seamless curriculum integration.

Education experts have hailed the project as a milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey, with potential to become one of the largest technology-driven education rollouts in Africa.
