In the heart of Araromi, Oyo, a quiet revolution in science and leadership training is taking shape. The Ionone Scholars, described as a league of future scientists and technologists, is equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to become global leaders in science and innovation.
News Live Nigeria engaged Dr A. Azeez, the Director of The Ionone Scholars, to learn more about the vision, programmes, and opportunities this initiative offers.

NLN: Dr. Azeez, thank you for speaking with us today. To begin, could you tell our readers what The Ionone Scholars is all about?
Dr Azeez: Thank you for having me. The Ionone Scholars is a league of future scientists and technologists. Our focus is on nurturing the next generation of scientific leaders through wholesome scientific and leadership training programmes. We are committed to excellence and innovation in everything we do.

NLN: That sounds inspiring. What exactly is your vision for this initiative?
Dr Azeez: Our vision is to build a strong pipeline of young people who are well-prepared to lead in science and technology, not only in Nigeria but globally. We believe that by combining scientific learning with leadership development, our scholars will grow into professionals capable of solving real-world challenges.
NLN: How do you achieve this balance of science and leadership?
Dr Azeez: We structure our programmes to provide both laboratory-based scientific experiences and leadership workshops. This way, students don’t just learn concepts; they also develop critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation skills. It is about producing well-rounded scientists.
NLN: Can you tell us where you are located and how people can join?
Dr Azeez: Certainly. We are based at Melagro Area, Araromi, Oyo, just beside the SARS Office. Our training sessions hold on weekends from 11 am to 4 pm. Anyone interested can join by reaching out to us via email at iononescholars@gmail.com or through our phone numbers: 08056849514 and 08108383729.
NLN: Finally, what message would you like to share with young Nigerians considering a future in science?
Dr Azeez: My message is simple: science and technology are the engines of progress. If you are passionate, determined, and willing to commit to excellence, The Ionone Scholars is the place for you. Join us, and together, we can shape a brighter future.
