Troops of the 3 Division Garrison and Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered a cache of arms during a targeted security operation in Plateau State.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of JTF OPEP, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the arrest was made on 14 November 2025 as part of Operation PEACE SHIELD—an intensified effort to stem the flow of illicit weapons and improve security across the Joint Operations Area.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops intercepted the suspect, identified as Ishaya Musa, at the Jebbu Bassa Bypass checkpoint in Bassa Local Government Area. A detailed search uncovered six fabricated single-barrel rifles, two fabricated revolver rifles, one Dane gun, one expended cartridge, and various other items.

The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.

Major Zhakom noted that the operation reflects the Nigerian Army’s renewed determination to confront illegal arms proliferation and safeguard communities across Plateau State, especially as the harvest and festive seasons draw near.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies to support ongoing operations and enhance public safety.
