Oyo Chief Imam unveils committee for imamate inauguration

The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Kingdom, Sheikh Imam Billal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has formally announced the appointment of the Chairman and Members of the Imamate Inauguration and Turbaning Committee ahead of the ceremony slated for December 6, 2025.

According to the statement, Imam Daud Igi Ogun, the Khadeemul Muslimeen of Oyo Kingdom, will serve as Chairman of the committee.

The members include Alhaji Chief Tajudeen Kamarise, Prince Lateef Owoade, Alhaji Rasaq Ogunbado, Dr. AbdulMumeen Hamzah, Alhaji Rauf, Dr. Ismail Abdur-Raheem Katayeyanjue, Hon. Tijani Daud, Ustaz Sulayman Esa Oke, Shaykh Mudeer Ajiginni, Alhaja Adewole, Alhaji Dr. Taofeek Lamidi, Dr. Mikail Adekunle Adesola, Elegbede Mayowa Rahman, Alhaji Moshood Daramola, Alhaji Teslim Abubakar, Alhaji Tijani Abideen, and Princess Fatimah Owoade.

The committee is mandated to plan, coordinate and execute all activities leading to the inauguration, with the Grand Chief Imam urging the members to work harmoniously and uphold the dignity of the office throughout the assignment.

Barrister Bilal Akinola Ogunbado Akeugberu was confirmed as the new Chief Imam of Oyoland on November 11, 2025.
