” I sold honey, rode okada to keep up with tuition fees”, says UNILAG 2019 overall best PhD Thesis award winner

The University of Lagos, 2019 best Phd Thesis award winner, Dr Moruf Rasheed Olatunji has maintained that, he sold honey and rode motorcycle, popularly called “Okada”, to keep up with tuition fees and family during his post graduate studies in the institution.

Dr Moruf Rasheed, who stated this at 2019 UNILAG 51st Convocation ceremony, while delivering the graduation speech, narrated how he squatted and hung throughout his University education, when he couldn’t afford accommodation fees.

Dr. Moruf, an indigene of Ajegunle-Papa, a suburb of Lagos State, thrilled the audience on how he fell in love with Shellfish Ecology, a discipline in the department of Marine, Faculty of Science, University of Lagos.

He said, “When I first came to the University of Lagos and fell in love with Shellfish Bio-Ecology, a discipline in the Department of Marine Sciences, little did I know I will be winning this Unilag noble award. I only a

resolved to get the most out of everything I laid my hands on.”

He added that, the feat attained wasn’t got on a platter of gold, as he put in his best to achieve his Goals.

Dr. Moruf commended fellow graduands for being steadfast throughout their studies, urging them to sustain the steadfastness in their future endeavours.

He commended the University management for providing a transformative education platforms, which empowers learners to see the world differently.

He appreciated his Supervisors, Prof. Aderonke Omolara Lawal-Are and Associate Prof. Khalid Olajide Adekoya for the tedious but time￾tested procedural approach they inculcated in him throughout the conduct of his doctoral research.

He equally appreciated the Dean of his faculty, Prof. Alabi Soneye, the sub-Dean, Dr. (Mrs) Taofikat Adesalu and the University’s Vice Chancellor, who was once the Dean of Postgraduate School, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS.
