Why sex worker was burnt to death in Lagos

Three suspects have been prosecuted in Lagos after they allegedly beat Hannah Saliu, a prostitute to death and set her corpse ablaze for keeping the Holy Quran in her room.

News Live Nigeria gathered that after one of the suspects patronised Saliu and paid her N1,000 for the service, Saliu discovered that her N5,000 had gone missing.

She then trotted after the customer and accused him of stealing her money. This accusation compounded into a disagreement between both parties.

Consequently, the customer, according to sources, mobilised his friends to Saliu’s room to search for the missing money.

But during the search, the friends reportedly found a Quran underneath her pillow.

A source further explained that the customer and his friends were gutted upon the discovery. They did pounce on her, beat her out of bounds, and set her corpse ablaze.

“What happened was that the girl was a prostitute and a customer patronised her and after sleeping with her, the customer paid N1,000 for her service”, the anonymous source said.

“But when the customer was leaving, he stole the prostitute’s N5,000 and after discovering that her money had gone missing, the prostitute chased him to ask for her money”, the source added.

The source further revealed that people (notherners) who were with the lady when she found him decided to join in the search for the missing money in the lady’s room.

“They found Quran under her pillow and started asking what she was using the Quran for as a prostitute. So, they started attacking her; they stabbed her, took her out, and set her ablaze”, the source said.

This reporter understands that the incident happened in the Alaba Rago area of Lagos state, the home of many northern Muslims. Also, the lady who was brutally killed came from the northern part of the country.

In actuality, the group felt Saliu should not possess the Quran because of her seemingly ungodly source of income.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos state command confirmed the incident.

He furthered that the case is now at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, and three suspects have been charged to court.
Though this incident happened in April, a source has identified the suspects as Abubakar Musa, Sarauta Monsur, and Surajo Yusuf.
