“I am a Muslim. I am not a Christian”, Oyo DG, Bayo Lawal tells “doubting Thomases”

Oyo state deputy governor, Barrister Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal has cleared the air on the doubt cast against him by “doubting Thomases” that he is not a Muslim but only camouflages to be one.

Barrister Bayo Lawal made this clarification while addressing the Muslim faithful at Obafemi Awolowo Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan today at the Hijra 1444 celebration organised by National Council of Muslim Youths, NACOMYO, Oyo state chapter.

He said saying he is not a Muslim is not unconnected with ‘a game of disqualification’, which is not alien in political space to discredit a candidate.

“I am not a Christian. I don’t have a church, and I don’t attend a church. I am a Muslim.

The incontestable fact is, if I have not done to expectations in religion, and, of course no one can claim absolute perfection, there is every room for improvement. Soon, I will even surpass some of you in matters of religion, Insha Allah.

Note that I am being conscientious and intentional about what I am doing, disinfecting people’s minds against my person in respect of religion.

Islam has been my religion since my birth, and I do pray in my residence mosque and housing corporation mosque”, he concluded.

However, the deputy governor was unapologetic that Oyo state is being run on Christian-Muslim formula as against lies being peddled by a section of people in the state.

Bayo Lawal equally brought glad tidings from the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, felicitating the Muslims in the state for witnessing yet another Hijra year.
