Army troops repel deadly ambush in Wajiroko, Brigade Commander returns safely to base

Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade have successfully repelled a fierce ambush laid by terrorists around Wajiroko in the Azir-Multe axis of Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.

The soldiers, who were on a routine patrol aimed at securing vulnerable communities, came under intense and unexpected fire as they returned from a successful mission along the fringes of the Sambisa Forest. The operation was led by the Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, and included personnel from the brigade as well as members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

Despite the suddenness and intensity of the attack, the troops fought gallantly, overpowering the insurgents with superior firepower and forcing them to flee in disarray, abandoning their plans.
However, the encounter came at a cost.

Two soldiers and two CJTF members bravely paid the supreme price while defending the nation. The Army High Command has extended its condolences to the families and associates of the fallen heroes, praising their courage and sacrifice.

The Nigerian Army also debunked circulating fake news alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander during the attack. Authorities described the report as false and urged the public to disregard it.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM), commended the troops for their resilience and exceptional bravery in one of the country’s most volatile conflict zones. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to defeating terrorism and safeguarding the nation.

“The unflinching dedication of our gallant service men and women, even in the face of grave danger, stands as a powerful reminder of their daily sacrifices to keep Nigeria safe,” he said.

The Army sought continued public support and prayers for the ongoing success of Nigerian troops on the frontlines.
