Plateau State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Bernard Matur and The Chairman, Bokkos Local Government Council, Hon. Joseph Guluwa met with the State Governor, Rt Hon Dr. Simon Bako Lalong, KSGG, CON to find lasting solutions to armed bandits and kidnappers attacks in Bokkos LGA and environments.
At least 5 people were killed, scores injured and dozens of houses razed in separate attacks in the LGA last weekend.
“The latest attacks are one too many” as reported by the Chairman Bokkos LGA. He pleaded with the Governor to intervene.
On his part, Prof. Matur informed the Governor that long before the latest attacks, residents of Bokkos LGA have been denied access to their farms which provide their livelihoods and the economy of the state and Nigeria. “Our people can no longer sleep in their houses or go to their farms for fear of attacks,” he said.
The commissioner pleaded for security deployments as well as humanitarian relief to villagers who lost their houses and livelihoods in the recent attacks.
Responding, Governor Lalong assured of his total commitment to securing the lives and propertie in the State. He further stated that in line with Mr President’s directives to flush out bandits from all communities, he has directed the security agencies to be more proactive while deploying they military initiatives.
He condemned the recent attacks on innocent, law abiding citizens, describing them as “callous, barbaric and unacceptable.”
The Governor also commiserated with the Local Government and victims of the recent attacks.
