There are promising indications that the results of the local government election might go in favour of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Lagos State.
The nature of results has indicated an early victory for the APC candidates going by the results that have been announced so far from the 20 Local Government Areas, LGAs, and 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, had earlier today noted that the results of the polls would be announced by the presiding officers at each polling unit and subsequently, the final results which will be declared after collations across councils.
One of the early results received from confirmed report showed APC sweeping the votes in Iba LCDA. Ward E, pulling unit 022 update showed councilorship, APC 93, APGA 1, PDP. 11, while chairmanship recorded APC 98, APGA 0, PDP 3, void 4.
It was also gathered that the youngest council chairman, under the APC platform in Coker-Aguda LCDA, Omobolanle Medinat Akinyemi-Obe, emerged winner with an emphatic result.
Some results as at the time of filing this report showed APC winning flawlessly in councils such as; Oriade, Oshodi, Apapa, Ono, Amuwo-Odofin, Surulere, Agege, Alimosho, Ikeja, Ikoyi, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ikorodu, Epe, Ipaja Mosan -Okunola, riverine areas in Badagry, among others.
Out of the 133 candidates vying for the office of the chairman, 16 are women and of the 131 Vice Chairman candidates, 106 are women, indicating strong female participation in grassroots politics.
While 15 parties were registered in the ballots, only about four political parties got recorded votes for both LGA/LCDA chairman and council election.
Albeit, the exercise, marred with low turnout, and logistic hitches and pockets of violence, was adjudged to be generally peaceful across the state.
Security operatives were gallantly on ground to ensure peace and order throughout the election process.
