Muslim women under the umbrella of Al-Mu’minaat, The Believing Women Organisation, Oyo state chapter, has called on the Media to play their role of ensuring a safe society by being fair and objective in their reportage.
They noted that the media play a major role in determining the pulse of the nation as well as shaping people’s opinions.
The association made this disclosure while paying a courtesy visit to one of the Nigeria’s leading newspapers, Nigerian Tribune, at Oke Ado, Ibadan on Thursday August 26, 2021. This visit was part of her 2021 Al-Mu’minaat Week.
“We hereby use this opportunity to enjoin members of the Fourth Estate to continue to be fair, objective and unbiased in the discharge of their responsibilities to their profession, the Nigerian populace and the Nigerian nation”.
The communication officer, Alhaja Khadijah Afolabi expressed the organisation’s delight at the paper’s display of professionalism.
Her words: “We are delighted to pay a courtesy visitation to Tribune Newspapers in recognition of your roles as one of the oldest and leading newspapers in the country. The purpose of our visitation is to appreciate your efforts towards enhancing social awareness and also intimate you with our organisation’s programmes.”
However, the organisation noted that the Nigerian society is steeped in corruption, different shades of vices and moral bankruptcy because the family, which is the microcosm of the society, has failed in its responsibility of nurturing responsible, righteous and God-fearing individuals.
It therefore urged Nigerian women who are the pillars of the homes and invariably the society, to perform their God-ordained roles for a virile and safe nation.
