The head of the Palestinian community in Nigeria, Ramzy Abu Ibrahim, has reportedly been arrested in Abuja under unclear circumstances.
According to his relatives, operatives who identified themselves as members of an anti-terrorism squad stormed his residence in the Federal Capital Territory on Friday and took him away.
The family says they have not been informed of his location or the reason for his detention.
An official at the Palestinian Embassy in Abuja confirmed awareness of the incident but said the mission is still seeking details.
“Yes, we heard about it and we are still trying to process the information,” the official told SaharaReporters.
Mr. Abu Ibrahim, who has lived in Nigeria for decades, is widely recognized in local media and by public figures as the leader of the Palestinian community in the country. His relatives suggested that his arrest may be linked to his recent public advocacy regarding attacks on journalists and civilians in Gaza.
However, PREMIUM TIMES could not independently verify that claim.
The arrest comes amid renewed global attention on the Israeli war in Gaza, where heavy civilian casualties continue to mount.
On Monday, international outlets reported that Israeli airstrikes on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis killed at least 15–20 people, including journalists such as Hussam al-Masri (Reuters contractor), Mariam Dagga (AP freelancer), and Mohammed Salama (Al Jazeera). Reuters photographer Hatem Khaled was also wounded.
As of press time, Nigerian security agencies have not issued a public statement regarding Mr. Abu Ibrahim’s detention.
PREMIUM TIMES sent inquiries to police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi and to the Office of the National Security Adviser’s spokesperson, Zakari Mijinyawa, but neither has provided a response.
