The Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI), Muhammed Babandede MFR has reacted to feud between personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Services and the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Honourable Yusuf Sahib Oladayo.
In a statement signed by the Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, ACI Amos Okpu, mnipr released on Friday in Abuja, stated that the Comptroller General is disturbed that minor misunderstanding was allowed to linger unnecessary between the two agencies that have, over the years enjoyed amiable relationship.
According to him, Ibadan North Local Government happens to be one of the best neighbours and nearest democratic institution to the Oyo State Command Complex.
“The attention of the Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI), Muhammad Babandede MFR has been drawn to some reports about a misunderstanding between some of our Personnel at the Oyo State Command Office and Officials of the Ibadan North Local Government Area yesterday.”
“The Comptroller General is disturbed that a minor misunderstanding was not quickly resolved leading to an unnecessary scuffle between two friendly agencies that have maintained very cordial relationship over the years.
“The Ibadan North Local Government Council remains one of the best immediate neighbours and indeed the nearest democratic institution to the Oyo State Command Complex. Our agency has huge regards as well as honour for democratic institutions and thus should not be involved in anything to the contrary. The Service and Ibadan North Local Government Council have continued to enjoy excellent neighbourliness over the decades thereby making this altercation most unfortunate.
The immigration boss noted that, he holds the council boss and his management in high esteem and maintained that he has ordered investigation into the unfortunate events to unravel the cause of the event. He, however, calls for calm.
“The Comptroller General holds the Chairman of the Council and his Management team in high esteem and so has ordered an investigation into the unfortunate development.
“He appeals for calm stressing that due diligence will be taken to not only ensure amicable resolution of the matter but that any Personnel found to have acted unprofessionally is appropriately sanctioned.”
Recall that the officers of the immigration on Wednesday, 18th August 2021 molested the Council boss alongside his aides while some were beaten up, tear gas and gunshots were fired at others. The Association of Council Chairmen, under the aegis of Oyo ALGON had on Thursday issued 24hrs ultimatum to the personnels of Immigration services to vacate the Council’s headquarters.
