A Computer Engineering scholar at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Dr. Segun Aina, has been appointed Professor of Computer Engineering at the age of 39, making him one of the youngest professors in the field in Nigeria.

Aina, who lectures in the Department of Computer Engineering, currently holds several departmental and faculty responsibilities at the university.

Reacting to the appointment, he described the achievement as humbling, noting that it comes with greater expectations to serve academia, industry and national development.

“This milestone is a humbling reminder that excellence, discipline and purpose-driven work can accelerate impact. I see this professorship not as a destination, but as a renewed responsibility to contribute more meaningfully to academia, industry and national development,” he said.

The appointment, according to colleagues, was based on Aina’s strong research credentials, academic leadership and commitment to bridging theory and practice within Nigeria’s education and technology ecosystem.
