The Oyo State Government has again emphasized the need for private companies to prioritize the welfare of their employees, stressing that a healthy and secure workforce remains the foundation of a thriving economy and peaceful society.
The Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Commerce, and Cooperatives, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi, made this known on Tuesday during the ongoing sensitization visits by the Oyo State Industrial Crisis Management Team to various production companies within Ibadan metropolis.
Represented by the Director of Industry, Engr. Mrs. Majeedat Olanrewaju, the Commissioner explained that the visits are designed to improve workplace safety, protect workers’ rights, and prevent industrial crises across the state.
According to him, the engagements also provide a platform for interaction with management and union representatives, ensure welfare measures are in place, and verify compliance with health and safety standards.
He reiterated the commitment of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to creating a more robust and investor-friendly environment, while ensuring that workers remain at the center of industrial growth.
“The essence of this outreach is to ensure that all private companies in Oyo State comply with employees’ rights and workplace safety regulations so that businesses can operate in a friendly and peaceful environment,” Adebisi stated.
Responding, management teams of the companies visited expressed appreciation to the government for establishing the Industrial Crisis Management Team, describing it as a proactive step that will prevent employer-worker conflicts and foster harmony in the private sector.
They also commended Governor Makinde’s administration for sustaining a business-friendly environment that allows enterprises to grow and contribute to the state’s economy.
As part of the visits, the team inspected facilities such as clinics, toilets, canteens, fire control systems, extinguishers, fire trucks, and first aid points to confirm adherence to occupational safety standards.
Companies visited during the exercise include NOURDM Global Company Ltd., UGEE Chemical Ltd., and Polyfilm Packaging, all located in Ibadan.
