The first national chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Rufai Hanga has revealed that there was a doctored agreement between President Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, that the latter would take over from President Muhammadu Buhari when he completes his tenure in 2023.
We should recall that the alliance amongst Buhari’s party, CPC, ACN, that of the former Lagos state governor, and ANPP gave birth to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In an interactive with DAILY TRUST, Hanga said the “implied agreement” is an “open secret”.
He further explained that the two-term Lagos state governor did not leave the APC after Buhari’s first term because of the purported agreement.
“This is an open secret. There was an implied agreement. Even in law, there is an implied and expressed act. If something is expressed, there are no two ways about it,” the former federal lawmaker added.
He inferred that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu would have left the party after the completion of the APC-led regime after the first term but the charter was the key holder that penned him down.
“If Tinubu knew that he would not benefit, he would have backed out during Buhari’s first tenure. But he knows there was an agreement”, he stated.
Hanga saw that the former Lagos state governor may not be able to clinch the ticket in the build-up to the 2023 general poll because of an “imminent fracas” in the ruling party.
To the former CPC chieftain, Nigerians may opt for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 because of APC’s overall “woeful performance”.
