Westland university appoints Oluwo of Iwo as chancellor

Westland University, Iwo, Osun State, has appointed His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland, as the new Chancellor of the institution for a five-year term.

The appointment was conveyed in an official letter signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Sunday Olalekan Olaosebikan, on behalf of the Governing Council, which is chaired by Dr. (Mrs.) Esther Adepoju.

The University described Oba Akanbi as an ideal candidate whose leadership, wisdom, and commitment to youth development and education align with the institution’s vision of excellence.

 “Your Imperial Majesty’s leadership, wisdom, and commitment to quality education for our teeming youth make you an ideal candidate for this position,” the statement read. “We believe that your royal guidance will significantly contribute to our university’s growth and development.”

As Chancellor, Oba Akanbi is expected to provide visionary leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to the University’s academic and administrative activities. He will also preside over convocation ceremonies and represent the institution at both national and international engagements.

The University further expressed confidence that the monarch’s influence and advocacy will help strengthen partnerships, attract collaborations, and enhance the school’s global standing.

 “We look forward to working closely with Your Imperial Majesty as we congratulate you on this appointment,” the Registrar stated.

With this appointment, the Oluwo of Iwoland joins the list of prominent traditional rulers in Nigeria contributing to the advancement of higher education through strategic leadership roles in academic institutions.
