A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Buruji Kashamu, has died of COVID-19 complications.
The Senator was said to have died on Saturday at a health facility in Lagos State.
He had been admitted to the hospital for a while.
His former colleague at the National Assembly, Mr Ben Murray-Bruce, confirmed the death of the Ogun State-born politician this evening.
Ben Murray-Bruce said, “I have just lost my good friend of forever to #COVID19. “Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos.
“May his gentle soul rest in peace.
I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss,” the common sense Senator posted on his verified Twitter page on Saturday evening.
Mr Kashamu, who hails from Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State, is not the first high profile politician to die of COVID-19 at the First Cardiology Consultants.
It was earlier reported that the late Chief of Staff of President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Abba Kyari, died at the health facility.
Also, the former Governor of Oyo State, Mr Abiola Ajimobi reportedly died at the same hospital in June 2020 of COVID-19.
