Barcelona club president Joseph Maria Bartomeu has admitted that they won’t even try to bring in either the Brazil or Argentina star to the Catalan club this close season.
He said Barcelona will be unable to complete a deal to sign either Laurato Martinez from Inter or Paris Saint-Germain attacker Neymar this summer owing solely to the financial cachexia that accompanied the coronavirus outbreak.
NewsLiveNigeria gathered that the club is a long_term admirer of the two lethal forwards but the coronavirus crisis has put the club’s finances into a state of uncertainty to the extent that they cannot complete a deal for any of the frontmen.
The Catalan club’s fans had been hoping for a better season after majority of their new forward recruits had been letting them down; Philippe Countinho, Osmane Dembele and now Antonie Greizman which had culminated into the underperformance of the team and a managerial change.
Bartomeu, meanwhile, did take time to assess the sole signing that the club have completed so far – Miralem Pjanic from Juventus, with Arthur going the other way.
“We’ve been following him for a while but every time we moved for him it wasn’t possible because his club didn’t want to sell,” he added that “He(Pjanic) was always excited about the chance of coming to Barca. This isn’t a surprise signing. He’s going to be an important player for us.”
However, With the presidential elections of the Laliga giant looming, any inactivity in the market is likely to tell adversely in the chances of Bertomeu retaining his seat. Barcelona lost the Laliga title of this just concluded season to Real Madrid after been on top before footballing activities were called off due to COVID_19 Pandemic.
