The Federal Government has announced plans to ban motorcycles and mining activities nationwide.
It was gathered that the decision is part of strategies to curb terrorist activities, checkmate loopholes, and cut off terrorists’ sources of funding.
On the implications of the proposed restrictions, the Minister argued that the government also had to be dynamic if security was to be restored.
Abubakar Malami said the government was not unaware of the hardship that would befall innocent motorcyclists, and the socio-economic implications of the proposed ban, but stressed that sacrifices had to be made to thwart the activities of terrorists.
While seeking the understanding of Nigerians regarding the proposed ban, the Minister of Interior, Alhaji Rauf Aregbesola, explained the need for encompassing actions to be taken to protect lives and property of Nigerians.
He said measures were being taken to strengthen surveillance of the nation’s borders to prevent the inflow of arms and ammunition into the country.
