Governor Lalong reinforces 24-hour curfew in Plateau

By Yusuf Adua

The Executive Governor of Plateau state, Dr. Simon Lalong has today directed the immediate reinstatement of the 24-hour curfew earlier relaxed from 4 pm, Sunday, 24th October 2020 in Jos South and Jos North Local Government Areas till further notice.

The Governor, who stated that this new point of order became necessary to prevent the escalation of crimes and other condemnable acts perpetrated by hoodlums all in the name of the EndSARS protest in the state, made this known via a press release available for newsmen’s consumption and signed by His Excellency himself.

On the 20th October 2020, the Governor earlier imposed curfew in Jos South and Jos North Local Government Areas in a swift response to the snarls that ensued when unknown hoodlums hijacked the ENDSARS protests leading to the destruction of lives and properties but the curfew was relaxed from the hours of 6 am to 8 pm from 23rd October 2020 after an initial assessment.

However, the Governor expressed that owing to the dastardly acts of some hoodlums who broke into the warehouses where palliatives delivered to the State by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development last week were stored awaiting distribution and carting them away as well as other irregularities threatening the peace and security of the state, the new order is the quick fix.

“Security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew and ensure that all violators are arrested and prosecuted”, the Northern Governors’ Forum chairman announced.

He did call on every citizen and stakeholder in the state to continue to cooperate with the government to ensure the peace and progress known of Plateau State.
