House help, Chepas Iliya, arrested over killing of his former employer in Nasarawa

A 27-year-old house help, Chepas Iliya, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly killing his former employer.

The Kaduna born house help is suspected to have killed Mr. Martins Omeri, a Deputy Chief Auditor in the office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Abuja, his former employer who was residing at Navy Estate Karshi, Karu LGA, Nasarawa State.

Police spokesperson ASP Ramhan Nansel said, “On 24th November 2020 at about 11:45 am, police personnel attached to Karshi Division acted on credible intelligence and arrested the suspect at Arab area, FCT Abuja.

According to ASP Rahman, a search was conducted in Chepas’s apartment where One Infinix phone, laptop, clothes, a pair of shoes, clipper, beddings, and few other properties belonging to the deceased were recovered as exhibits.

“The suspect confessed that he sneaked into the house of the deceased on the night of 17th November 2020 while he was asleep and killed him using a log of wood. The corpse was discovered on 19th November 2020,” he detailed.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal and Investigation Department, Lafia, adding that Mr. Chepas would be arraigned after investigation.

He however added that the commissioner enjoined members of the public to thoroughly screen and know the family of people they employ as house helps and caregivers.
