Muslim school owners, parents hold special prayer session for abducted teachers, pupils in Oyo

By Bukola Hameed

The Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS) and the League of Muslim School Proprietors Worldwide (LEAMSP) have announced a one-day special prayer programme for the safe release of teachers and pupils currently being held in captivity by bandits.

The prayer session, scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026, will take place at the Oyo Central Mosque, Akesan, Oyo, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

According to a public notice jointly issued by the two organisations, the programme is aimed at mobilising Muslim school owners, parents, teachers, and the wider Muslim community to seek divine intervention for the victims’ safe return.

As part of the arrangements, member schools have been directed to suspend academic activities for the day to enable full participation in the prayer gathering.

The organisers described the situation as deeply disturbing and called on all stakeholders to unite in prayers for the affected children and teachers, expressing hope that they would soon regain their freedom unharmed.

The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Sheikh Barrister Bilaal Oseni Akinola, is expected to attend the event as the Special Guest of Honour.

The prayer programme comes amid growing concern over the security situation following the abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in Oyo State, a development that has generated widespread anxiety among parents, education stakeholders, and residents.

AMIS and LEAMSP urged attendees to be punctual and remain steadfast in prayer, expressing confidence that Allah would answer the collective supplications of the Muslim community for the safe return of the captives.

“Let us unite in prayers for the safe return of our children and teachers,” the organisers appealed. “May Allah (SWT) answer our prayers.”
