The Oyo State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has raised an alarm over the abduction of a primary school headmaster within the Itesiwaju Local Government Area of the state, calling on security agencies to ensure his swift release.
In a joint statement issued on Monday, July 13, 2026, by the State Chairman, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the State Secretary, Comrade Salami Olukayode, the union revealed that the victim, Mr. M.K. Owoade, is the Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye.
According to the union leadership, Mr. Owoade was reportedly kidnapped on his farmland at approximately 5:00 PM on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The state executive became aware of the incident following an urgent notice dispatched to members by the Itesiwaju Local Government branch of the NUT.
Condemning the incident, the NUT described the abduction as a deeply disturbing development and a stark reminder of the escalating security vulnerabilities confronting educators and academic staff nationwide.
”The union calls on the government, law enforcement agencies, and all relevant authorities to intensify operations to secure the immediate and safe rescue of the abducted headmaster,” the statement read in part. It further stressed the need for proactive measures to guarantee the safety of teachers, students, and ordinary citizens within their workplaces and local communities.
While expressing solidarity with Mr. Owoade’s family, colleagues, and pupils, the NUT leadership urged its members across the state to remain highly vigilant and security-conscious.
The union concluded with prayers for the protection of all citizens against the wave of insecurity and for the quick, unharmed return of the school head.
