At L.A. Basic School Bola, Oyo, the struggles of many young pupils were visible – bare feet padding across the dusty ground, patched uniforms stitched together by hand, and children striving to learn despite the odds.
But this week, hope arrived in the form of the Education for Every Child 2025 initiative, launched by the Precious Mothers Guild (PMG) Foundation. More than 50 children received school bags, notebooks, sandals, uniforms, and socks – basic items that, for many, had long been out of reach.
“These are not just school supplies,” a representative of the foundation explained. “They restore dignity, build confidence, and open the door to a brighter future.”
Parents and teachers at the school described the gesture as life-changing, noting that many children had been forced to attend classes without essential learning materials.
For the beneficiaries, the day was one of smiles and relief. Eleven-year-old Aisha, now proudly wearing her new uniform, said, “I am happy because I look like other children. I will not be shy to come to school again.”
The initiative underscores the urgent need for support in rural Nigerian schools, where poverty continues to hinder children’s access to education. According to UNICEF, an estimated 10.2 million Nigerian children of primary school age are out of school, one of the highest figures in the world.
PMG Foundation expressed gratitude to its donours for making the project possible and appealed for more support to reach additional children across underserved communities.
“Every child deserves the chance to learn with dignity,” the foundation said. “With collective effort, we can change lives and reshape the future of our children.”
