Civil servants in Oyo state were taken aback by what they described as compassionate gesture of governor Seyi Makinde when July salary alerts tickled in today Friday.

Ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, Oyo state Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has approved the payment of July salaries a week earlier to allow workers and pensioners to celebrate in a joyous manner.

According to reports, as of today, 16th of July, civil servants in Oyo state have started receiving salary alerts for July.

Retirees too were not left out as they are already receiving alerts for their monthly pensions.

A source said one senior civil servant at the state Secretariat who spoke to newsmen on the condition of anonymity expressed great joy as he said that the development is commendable and would serve as a relief especially to Muslim faithfuls.

The government worker said: ”The worries about Ileya celebration for our Muslim friends in the service have been allayed and we are happy that Gov Makinde made this happen. He is passionate about the welfare of civil servants in the state and this further confirms his love for workers.

“Since he came on board he has never reneged his promise to pay salary on or before 25th of every month. We are getting our promotion, leave bonus, arrears and other remuneration very well and this doesn’t in any way affect infrastructural and other developmental projects in all sectors,” he added.
