The police have arrested a suspected cultist following a clash by rival groups at the Mile one market axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on Tuesday.
The Nigerian police furthered that about two houses were charred during the clash which as expected, created panic among traders and residents of the area.
Sources which got across to News Live Nigeria said policemen arrested one of the suspected cultists, who ran into their station when he was being pursued by a rival gang.
It was gathered that the fleeing cultist that ran into the station and was taken into police custody sustained gunshot injuries.
But the invaders were said to have fled following the heavy presence of armed policemen.
The invaders were said to have traced their rivals to their houses and reportedly invoke heavy conflagration on buildings, leaving many including traders running for their dear lives.
When contacted, spokesman of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident describing it as a supremacy hassle.
Omoni, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said that the command has begun an investigation to reveal the cause of the incident to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
“Though the matter has nothing to do with the police, we are investigating. One person has already been arrested and we are on their trail,” Mr. Omoni added.
He believed that the perpetrators will be rounded up soon and will all face the tonnage of the law.
