After 40 years in prison, the occupation releases the dean of the Palestinian prisoners, Karim Younis

At dawn today, Thursday, the Israeli occupation authorities released the Palestinian prisoner, Karim Younis , after a 40-year detention.

Al-Jazeera correspondent Guevara Al-Badiri said that the dean of the Palestinian prisoners, Karim Younes, 66, is enjoying freedom after he ended his 40-year sentence in the occupation prisons.

The reporter added that the occupation authorities deliberately transported him in a police car from Hadarim Prison to a bus station in Raanana, north of Tel Aviv.

According to the correspondent, the released prisoner was able to contact his family from the phone of a passer-by who helped him identify the place, before heading to his hometown in the village of Ara in the triangle area inside the Green Line.

In his first words after freedom, Yunus said, “I salute our great Palestinian people who have been struggling for 100 years without raising the white flag.”

In turn, the spokesman for the Prisoners’ Information Office, Hazem Hassanein, said that the way Yunus was released confirms that the occupation fears even the joy of our people and their reception of their heroes.

Hassanein added that the occupation’s use of this method of release will not prevent the joy from entering the heart of every Palestinian with the liberation of the prisoner, Karim Younes, after 4 decades of detention.

4 decades of captivity
Karim Yunus Fadl Yunus – nicknamed the Dean of the Palestinian Prisoners – was born on December 24, 1956, in the village of Ara, located in the northern triangle in the Palestinian interior.

On January 6, 1983, the occupation forces arrested him from his studies at Ben-Gurion University, when he was 23 years old at the time, after they stormed his family’s house in the village of Ara to search for him the night before his arrest.

At first, his family did not know his place of detention, and they searched for him for months in the occupation prisons, until the lawyer was able to find him in Ashkelon prison, and he was transferred to all Israeli prisons.

Yunus was arrested on several charges, as he was accused of belonging to the then-banned Fatah movement, engaging in armed resistance, and killing an Israeli soldier. He was sentenced to death by hanging, then the sentence was commuted to an open life sentence, and in 2015 the occupation authorities set life imprisonment for 40 years.

He was supposed to be released within an agreement signed in July 2013 between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli occupation, which requires the release of all old prisoners detained before the Oslo agreement, but the occupation authorities backtracked after releasing the fourth batch, which included 30 prisoners, including 14 prisoners from Palestinian interior.

His mother, Hajja Subhiya Youssef, was counting the days waiting for his freedom, as she was constantly appearing on the media to talk about him and demand his release. about him.
