Oyo state Chief Commandant of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) codenamed Operation Amotekun, Rtd. Colonel Olayinka Olayanju has doused the growing frightening assumption that the outfit was put in place to rival the government’s security apparatus.

Remove your name from our mosque: MURIC tells Makinde

He made this revelation when News Live Nigeria correspondents branched at Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), Oyo on Tuesday to assess the quality of training given to the operatives as well as ascertaining the level of preparedness of the outfit in the state towards the taking up of their primary assignments.

Col. Olayanju highlighted that the primary function of the outfit across the six southwestern states is crystal clear which is to enhance the security framework of the states and jettison crime in the rural areas, communities and villages.

“The security personnel put in place by the government are doing a mammoth but thankless job, the Nigerian police is putting in distinguished sacrifice to deepen the width of order across board though we may have miscreants amongst them; the vacuum left unfilled in the system is what we want to fill,” the military detailed.

The retired military man who tagged the Nigerian police as “Amotekun’s elder brother ’ stressed that the outfit has an unflinching rapport with the police and other institutions that form the security architecture of Oyo state.

Speaking about the training of the corps, Col. Olayanju said the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nwachuku Enwonwu, legal practitioners and experts in the defence and security industry were among the distinguished tutors who ran them through the nook and cranny of law and order maintenance.

He also took the time to applaud the Oyo state government for their fatherly backing of the outfit stressing that they would not hesitate to exile any Corp who wants to divert from the grand norm of their duties during the course of carrying out their functions just as they’ve been doing since the training started.

“The boy that was adjudged to be manhandled who claimed to be a member of the student’s union was not even recognized by the organic security of the institution. He was coming into the school around 6:30 pm when the school is on a break to enable us facilitate this cause without ado, forcing his way through that which we didn’t and will never tolerate. All has been settled and the camp is at peace as we speak”, the Commandant explained concerning the supposed brawl that shook waves on the 11th of November, 2020.

On the mode of operation of the force, he said Amotekun would operate from the ward, local government area, town, state, and then to the zone level of which there would be coordinators to administer each unit.

He didn’t forget to hint the public to expect armoured troops that have 90% of their population as men who would begin operation within the next 12 hours.

The passing out ceremony of the operatives will take place today Wednesday, 17th of November, 2020 which is expected to have the Chief Security Officer and Governor of Oyo state, Governor Seyi Makinde, traditional and religious leaders, civil societies, dignitaries, and government functionaries in attendance. News Live Nigeria is set to keep you up to speed as the event flows tomorrow.
