Traders at the Bodija International Market in Ibadan, Oyo State have appealled to Oyo state government on evacuation of heaps of refuse and sewage at the Market’s entrance.
Check by News Live Nigeria correspondent on Thursday September 16th 2021 revealed that, the main entrance of the international market is full of heaps of refuse and sewage, indiscriminately dumped and packed inside waste containers owned by Oyo state Waste Management Agency (OYOWMA).
Some of the traders told our correspondent that, the huge waste at the Market’s entrance has become a threat to their health and that of their customers.
One of the traders who spoke on the condition of anonymity, stated that Contractors engaged by (OYOWMA) usually visit the waste site every three days but haven’t visited the site in the last five days.
“We haven’t seen them in the last five days and the waste has become a threat to everyone here. We are begging Oyo State Government to come to our rescue”
He maintained that, the bad odour from the huge waste has deprived them of fresh and good air, as they no longer breathe in good air.
“As you can see and perceive as well, the bad odour has filled up everywhere here. We are no longer breathing fresh and good air. This is not good for one’s health”, he added.
When contacted, the chairman, Oyo State Waste Management Board, Prince Seun Adelore said that, men of Oyo State Waste Management Agency ( OYOWMA) were at the Bodija market entrance to evacuate some waste on Monday. He, however, promised that the waste will be evacuated in no distant future.
As at the time of filing this report, the huge waste at Market’s entrance hasn’t been evacuated and it gets bigger every day.
