Cleric admonishes Nigerians to shun politics of bitterness

An Islamic cleric, Imaam Abdulfatahi Adebayo Balogun has admonished Nigerians, particularly the politicians to shun politics of bitterness in order to achieve a better Nigeria.

Imaam Balogun made this call while delivering his Khutbah, Friday sermon at Anwarul Islam central mosque, Sanga-Ojongbodu, Oyo on Friday.

He said for us to attain a peaceful Nigeria, all stakeholders, particularly our politicians must imbibe the culture of issue-based campaign rather than politics of bitterness, campaign of calumny and maiming.

“As 2023 elections draw nearer, we can’t afford to sacrifice our collective gain for parochial interest. Electioneering campaigns should be done in such a way that electorates will decide who to vote for based on their manifestos; what they have to offer Nigerians.

“It is important that we play according to the rules that we set for ourselves and we shouldn’t do anything that will endanger the process because it can eventually consume all of us”, he concluded.

The cleric however sent a note of warning to the youths to desist from being used as political thugs, and embrace peace, adding that politics is not a do-or-die affair.
