Many are human beings whose sadness or the dejection that is daily pricking them are not as a result of evil eyes or evil machination of the handiworks of their families, friends and rivals in their vicinities!
Yet, many people are daily experiencing melancholy despite their constant devotion to the religion of Allah, praise of prophet Muhammad ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) and endurance in the course of raising the flag of Islam.
Alas! The basis of their dejection cannot be traced either to the large wealth in their kith nor to the few coins and naira in their pockets but to being deceitful in dealing with other fellow human beings.
The depression which is plaguing them whenever they are has been the product of lack of honesty , chastity and propriety in their places of works, circles of friends and their family enclaves!
Yes! The Lord of the worlds and what abound therein Has never ceased distributing His goodies and wealth to every region of the worlds and the people dwelling therein.
Still, He Has not stopped being merciful to every clan and her people, but despite His goodness to this and that, the much sought happiness has been eluding the worlds, nations and their people as a result of greediness on the parts of human beings that make up of every nation which has in turn lead them to injustice.
It is this injustice that has been the clog in the wheel of progress and happiness of man these days which is prompting many a people into depression, hypertension and suicide! For a more clearer picture of the menace of injustice and deceitfulness, imagine a minister of commerce stealing the larger percentage of fund meant for trade and empowerment of the citizens economically.
Think of the minister of health who diverts the resources meant for the upgrading of primary and secondary heath care systems of a nation to his pocket.
How do you want him to have rest of mind and right psychology of well being to live in the midst of the economically poorer citizens and
disease-raven populate he had ridden of their rights to access stable economic system and good health care delivery structure.
There is no doubt that the two ministers may have been seeing around doling nice outfits but inwardly, the ghost of their handiworks will continue piercing their souls until they repent and return the resources to the owners.
It is therefore instructive as a Muslim that you deceive people not or being the cause of injustice to the people around you as long as you live ,if you want to maintain your sanity and peace of mind, even if those around you are unbelievers! Unfairness, injustice and being deceitful is so hateful in the eyes of Allah to the extent that He Has made it illegal for Himself for all His exaltation and influence!
Injustice And Deceitfulness Are Hateful In The Eyes Of God
Why will you want to melt out injustice to others just because they are under your suzerainty or being deceitful to them for the influence you exert on them when the true owner of suzerainty and influence on man Has made both injustice and deceitfulness illegal to His own soul?
I tell you, injustice and deceitfulness are hateful in the estimation of the creator of the earths and heavens to the extent that He opined in the special dialogue of Him with prophet Muhammad ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) known as Hadithu- il- Qudusi, in Islamic sciences that :
” O you my servants; I had made injustice illegal for myself and I had made it prohibitive upon you as well; do not be deceitful!”
The Curse Of The Oppressed Is Like A Spark Of Anger On The Oppressor
In another instance, the prophet (salla-llahu alehi wasalam) has likened the imprecation and curse of the dissimulated ,the grievant and oppressed to a spark of anger which will soon rain on the oppressors! It will rain so heavily on them that no earth will contain them nor heaven will save them from its torment and pain.
It is on this we bring forth the story of the emperor of Persia , the much famed Kisrah and an old woman, the owner of a Chicken.
The wise man of Persia told the story of an aged woman of the Persian kingdom who owned a big chicken in her cottage near the emperor Kisrah’s palace as follows:
“It happened that the old man and owner of the chicken went on traveling to another town and when going she said in prayer to God : ” I commit my chicken in your care, oversee it for me!” .
Hardly had the woman embarked on her journey, when the emperor Kisrah descended on her cottage and destroyed it so that he would use the space for the extension of his place! Not only that, his soldiers slaughtered the woman’s chicken and ate it.
Shortly afterwards, the woman returned and found her property destroyed! Quickly she turned her face to the heaven and bemoaned God thus:
” Oh Lord , I was absent where was you? And the good Lord came to her aid and avenged for her! It happened that the Son of the emperor Kisrah returned to his father from his hibernation with a knife and killed his own father on his bed!”
Allah says:
” Is Allah not sufficient for His servant? And they seek to frighten you with those besides Him; and whomsoever Allah makes err; there is no guide for Him!” _Qu’ran 39:36
It is a pity that we do not act like the good son of prophet Adam ( Alehi Salam) in the face of injustice and the unjust people who said to his brother:
” If you will stretch forth your hand towards me to slay me, I am not one to stretch forth my hand towards you to slay you, surely, I fear Allah the Lord of the worlds.” _ Qur’an 4: 28
Be The Oppressed But Never An Oppressor
Be a servant of God who is oppressed but be not an oppressor. Know that the oppressed, the grievant and the dissimulated has a place in the heart of the Lord of the Universe and be sure that He will be their avenger, no doubt!
An Arabic poet surmises:
Do not be deceitful even when you are powerful##
For deceitfulness will surely backfire and come back to its doer ##
You are asleep and the one you oppressed is awoken ##
Heaping a curse on you and the eyes of the Lord never sleep ##!
Be Wary Of The Eyes Of The Lord That Never Sleep And The Prayer Of The Oppressed That Never Miss
Be wary of the eyes of the Lord that never sleep and the prayer of the oppressed that never miss its target! Do not cheat, steal and take the property of others unjustly for the one whose eyes will not sleep will surely accept the prayer of the grievant no matter how long the injustice!
Come and see the loss of the one who is asleep but his neighbors are awoken heaping a curse on him! And imagine a soul who is slept but his neighbors sleep not praying fervently for him for the good and kindness he had done to them!
While the one who is accursed by his people will have no peace of mind, it is a done deal that the one whom others are praying for will use his afternoon and night in peace freeing of imprecation and bad omen that predisposed a mind to fear and dejection!
In the glorious Qur’an too, while the good Lord Has made it an habit to be with the good men who are just and unselfish in their dealings with others in the society ,He has also made it his behaviour to curse the unjust. We read this in different verses of the Qur’an as follows:
As for the doers of good , He says:
” And as for those whose strive hard for us, we will most certainly guide them in our ways, and Allah is most surely with the doers of good.”_ Qur’an 29:69
On the unjust, He says :
” …Now surely the curse of Allah is on the unjust.”
The Behaviour Of The Righteous To The Unjust
It is the behaviour of the righteous to view the injustice of the unjust as nothing but a mere phase in the course of their living. They don’t allow it to disturb them and to turn them to brutes like the oppressors instead they even pity and show kindness to the unjust for they are sure of the anguish and misery that await them if they do not repent!
Ibrahim Al-Taemiyy said:
” Indeed a man will be unjust to me and I will still show kindness to him”
The wealth of a righteous man from Huraasani was stolen and he started crying! Fudael ( may the Lord be pleased with him) questioned him :” why do you cry? ” The man replied him:” I remembered that the good Lord will sooner gather me and the thief together on the day of judgement and this elicited my crying for him as a way of pitying him!
The Effects Of Injustice Of The Unjust On His Deeds On The Day Of Judgement
Know brethren, may the good Lord be pleased with you and me that the injustice of unjust will negatively impact on his deeds on the day of judgement! It will lessen the portent of his good deeds and make it a ransom for the injustice he had melted to others where living!
In the Hadith which is narrated by Muslim ( Rahimahu llahu) that the prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) said one day to his companions:
” Do you know who is a bankrupt? They replied him ( the prophet salla-llahu alehi wasalam): The bankrupt among us is the one who is penniless and lack material wealth!”
The prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) said : ” The bankrupt of my nation is the one that comes on the day of judgement with canonical daily prayer, fasting, alms-giving, but he had reviled this and cursed that ( while living) ; he had eaten the money of this unjustly and shedded the blood of that as well as beaten this without being justified.
Then this will be given a part of his good deeds and that some of his good deeds but when his good deeds had finished beforehand, parts of the sins of those he had been unjust to where alive will be heaped on him as a ransom for his injustice and he will eventually be throwing into the Hellfire!”
