Bukola Hameed, Oyo

One of the popular Islamic clerics in the southwestern Nigeria, imam Daud Igi-Ogun, was today spotted, by NewsLiveLense, on his farm.

Imam Daud Igi-Ogun, the Ajagba central Mosque imam, proprietor of a government-approved group of schools, a lecturer with the Federal College of Education, SPECIAL, Oyo as well proprietor of a registered Arabic institute, didn’t succumb to the whims and caprices of the so called scholars, whom he called lazy.

The proprietor of Nature Nurture Group of Schools jettisoned all dignity, connection and influence. He chose to spend his Sunday morning hours on his farm, after his daily devotion known as adhkar in Arabic. His followers on social media were taken aback seeing him carrying yam tubers, himself. The video was released on his Facebook account today.

However, the farmer-scholar-lecturer imam berated the attitudes of some lazy scholars who claim and believe that farming is for hungry Alfas. He described this notion as unfounded, baseless and, unislamic, adding that Islam doesn’t only love, support, but also encourages farming, in strong terms.

The scholar threw his weight behind the federal government option of economic diversification, saying agriculture is a blessed endeavour that should be encouraged in other to get rid of poverty in the country.

His statement, ” farming is a good and blessed endeavour. Now, if you take a look at the yam tubers already in this vehicle, it worths about 200,000(two hundred thousand naira). We will give out some tubers when we get home because it’s meant to be shared.

I call on the “fetish scholars” who play on people’s intelligence and defraud them therewith, to repent and go to farm or engage in some other halal means of sustenance.

I equally pray for God’s Intervention in the life of our politicians, and government at all levels so that they will take the right steps at the right time. Agriculture has to be made appealling to our teaming youth population.

If our senators, governors, LG chairmen mean good for this nation, they must look in the direction of agriculture, and do the needful to make it enticing to Nigerians”.

He therefore urged all Facebook scholars who are fond of castigating, rebuking and, even cursing one another to desist from doing so and toll the path of righteousness, calling people to more fruitful issues.
