Police brutality and harassment of Innocent civilians had been a common break fast of officers of the Nigerian Police Force in Nigeria.
We are very much aware that over the years brutalizing innocent civilians, torturing and extorting them had been had been a second nature of Police officers.
It should be noted however, that we have been informed of another brutality of the Nigeria Police Force at Durbar Division, Oyo East having tortured, brutalized and detained innocent Mr. Olokun AbdulKabeer at a check point at Labamba area Oyo.
We have reliable evidence that Mr. Olokun AbdulKabeer was brutalized following, his resistance after one police officer Salako Adekunle of the same police division slapped him upon request of his motorcycle particulars by a police officer.
As if this was not enough, officers of Durbar Police Division of Oyo on the Directive of the DPO TSP Johnson Oke went further to detain this innocent man today 3rd October 2022, falsely and illegally as well as seizing his Motorcycle; thereby restricting him from carrying out his daily routine activities as a lawful citizen of the country while they demanded some amounts to be paid before his release.
It is pertinent however, to make it clear point blank that a police officer detaining an innocent civilian upon request of his motorcycle particulars without any evidence of theft or brigandary is beyond every reasonable doubt ultra vires and a gross misconduct.
The Police act had spelt the area of Operation of every police officer and any other duties carried out, outside the scope of this act is ultra vires. DPO Johnson Oke of the Duber Police Division has violated the Provision of the Constitution on Rights to Dignity of Human Person by directing officer of the police Division under his watch to toture Mr. Olokun AbdulKabeer and detain him.
To this effect, THURIST as an Human Rights Group which never fold her arms while innocent citizens suffer demands that the Durber Police Division Oyo should release the detained Mr. Olokun AbdulKabeer within 24hours.
Take notice that failure to comply with our demand, we shall have every course to proceed on a necessary action against you.
Thank you.
Signed
