The 2026 Hajj journey has officially commenced for Oyo State as the first batch of 315 intending pilgrims arrived safely in Medina, Saudi Arabia, to begin their sacred religious rites.
The contingent touched down at the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Monday, traveling via an Air Peace flight that departed from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Upon their arrival in the holy city, the pilgrims were commended by officials for their exemplary behavior and peaceful conduct during the transit process. This initial group is led by a dedicated team of board members, including Alhaji Rasheed Yusuf Olayiwola Biznillah, Alhaji Amusat Ayuba Agboola, Alhaji (Imam) AbdulMajeed Olanase, Alhaji Daud Bolaji Afolabi, and Alhaji Abdulrahmon Bakare Agbotomokekere, alongside the Secretary of the Board, Mr. Kamorudeen Babatunde Fasasi.
Before departing from Lagos, Mr. Fasasi spoke on behalf of the Board Chairman, Sheikh Wahab Atere Hashim Olamide, JP, to offer words of encouragement and reassurance. He emphasized that the state government has finalized all necessary logistics to guarantee a seamless, comfortable, and spiritually rewarding experience for every pilgrim while in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In addition to ensuring the pilgrims’ welfare, the Board addressed financial concerns regarding the pilgrimage costs. Mr. Fasasi announced that any pilgrims who inadvertently paid above the officially stipulated fare for the 2026 Hajj exercise will receive their refunds shortly, as the Board has already initiated the processing of these repayments.
With this first successful arrival, the state continues its commitment to a well-organized and hitch-free Hajj season.
