Oyo State collaborates with World Bank, IFC to conclude Ibadan green city action plan

By Bukola Hameed

The Oyo State Government has concluded its Ibadan Green Cities Action Plan Programme, reinforcing its commitment to transforming the state capital into a sustainable, resilient, and climate-smart hub through strategic collaborations with the World Bank Group and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, who also serves as the project coordinator, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, disclosed this on Thursday in his office while receiving the World Bank Group and IFC delegation following the successful completion of the programme.

Hon. Aderinto noted that the initiative directly aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision to position Ibadan as a modern, investment-friendly, and globally competitive city. This vision, he stated, is driven by sustainable urban development, environmental sustainability, improved urban mobility, flood resilience, and effective waste management systems.

According to the Commissioner, the concluding programme featured a comprehensive series of strategic engagements, technical workshops, stakeholder consultations, and field assessments. These sessions brought together relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), development partners, private sector stakeholders, transport operators, environmental experts, and urban development professionals.

He added that the sector-specific sessions focused heavily on transportation, solid waste management, water and wastewater infrastructure, urban planning, climate adaptation, emergency preparedness, green infrastructure, and identifying new investment opportunities to boost urban livability and economic competitiveness within the Ibadan metropolis.

Earlier, the World Bank Group and IFC delegation was led to the Commissioner’s office by the project’s co-coordinator, Hon. Abiodun Oluwaseun Laurel, who is the Senior Special Assistant on Project Delivery to the Governor. The visiting international team included Maryam Njie, Kelvin TAGNIPEZ, and Oluwaseun Olowoporoku.
