An Osun-based Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Yaqub AbdulBaaqi Muhammad has called on parents to place a premium on the proper upbringing of their children in order to make life a haven for all and sundry.
This call was made at the Convocation ceremony of the memorisers of the complete Qur’an of Daarul Hijrah Center for Qur’anic Memorization, Alawe Area, Iwo, Osun State.
Seven students who had memorised the whole Qur’an were convocated on Sunday 28th November, 2021.
The Convocation which witnessed the participation of renown Islamic scholars from far and near, such as Sheikh Dr, Yakub Abdul Baaqi Muhammad, the Wazeer of Yorubaland and the representative of the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, Shiekh Daood Imran Molaasan among others, was described as a bold step to propagate pristine Islamic doctrine among youths.
Addressing graduands, Sheikh Yakub Abdul Baaqi Muhammad tasked them to imbibe the teachings of the Quran, while enjoining other Muslims to enroll their wards for Qur’an memorization as this is what will remain with them in the hereafter. He said, “all parents should make sure their wards are religiously brought up to save them from the vices currently going on in the society.”
“Place the Qur’an at the centre of your child’s life. Young minds are very receptive, so children should be encouraged to read and memorise from an early age. Teach them to recite the Qur’an in Arabic and help them to understand its meaning in your native language”, Sheikh concluded.
The Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, represented by Sheikh Khidir Hamzah, remarked that it is important for all Muslims not just to read the Quran but also to abide by its teachings and tenets.
“Reciting the Qur’an is good but strict application of its teachings is the best”, he said.
The Proprietor of the Institute, Sheikh Abubakar Imran Molaasan in his speech highlighted that the seven graduands are certified to read every text of the Quran off-hand.
“We only deal with Qur’an Memorization in our School and the seven graduands are certified to recite the whole Qur’an off-hand.”
