By Nusaybah Omodolapo, Ile-Ife.

The Imam of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, OAUTHC mosque, Alhaji AbdulWaheed Ademosun, who is a lab scientist, has called on all believers to see this life as very transcient and ephemeral.

He said this while delivering Khutbah, Friday sermon, at the OAUTHC, Ile-Ife today. Imam harped on the need for the Muslim faithful to eschew all forms of mischief in a bid to winning Allah’s favour and felicity on the last day.

Last ten days of Ramadan: Imam urges fasting Muslims to maximise the opportunity

” This life, indeed, is volatile and short-lived. It doesn’t worth been desperate for. Believers on the day of judgement should strive hard to shun all engagements that will move them closer to evil, so that their hope in Paradise is not besmirched”.

In his 20-minute khutbah, the imam reiterated Allah’s might and magnificence, adding that whether or not man is pleased, The Creator, Allah does His things as He wills.

He drew the analogy of a white man’s sight at this time of global pandemic in our midst, that for example, Nigerians will run for the fear of been infected with COVID-19.

” That should serve as a reminder to us all that, this life is nothing and in a twinkle of an eye, anything can change. We all never thought of been in this kind of pandemic but even with it, we should know this life is too short to accumulate wealth, this life is too short to compete in worldly things.

The similitude of this life is like the life cycle of a plant, when it comes to a certain stage, it withers and that ends the cycle of the plant.

We all came to this world and one day we shall leave. No matter how much wealth we pile up, nothing goes with you to the grave.

You vie with one another in accumulating worldly asset, but do you ever ask yourself how much of this will make you enter Paradise?”.

” Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children. (It is) like a rain (Ghayth), thereof growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment, and (there is) forgiveness from Allah and (His) pleasure. And the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment.)”_ Q57:30.

Imam Ademosun therefore urged believers to compete with one another in goodness, piety and righteousness, stressing that whoever bids and forbids evils and good respectively, eternal comfort awaits them.
