UNILAG switches to virtual learning as COVID third phase hits

With the outbreak of the third face of Covid-19, Delta variant, the University of Lagos, UNILAG has shut the doors of the entire residential halls of the institute, telling students to subscribe to virtual learning.

Lagos State being an epicenter, with a fast growing rate in the COVID-19 cases, one of Lagos state tertiary institutions has shut the doors of her residential halls to prevent spread of Covid-19 within the school premises.

The intuition’s authorities made the statement yesterday 14th of July, 2021 at 12noon, after news that over six students from the 3 halls(Moremi, Honours and Amina Hostel) seemed to have contracted the virus.

The institution’s Principal Assistant Registrar, Corporate Affairs, Mrs Nonye Oguama gave the directive in a statement made on Wednesday that “The move is to further check the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic on campus in order for it not to escalate beyond control.

Furthermore, she explained that “No access will be granted to any student after the 15th of July. The hostels will be locked indefinitely, therefore students are advised to move all their personal effects at once.”

She also mentioned that “lectures are to be held virtually. Lecturers and students are to note that virtual lectures will commence on 26th of July, without further delay.

With the drop of Covid-19 to about one percent as at the end of May, the students of UNILAG resumed physical classes, with mandatory Covid-19 procedures enforced, and vaccinations administered to the lecturers, students and all members of staff.

Ogbuama confirmed that the students who tested positive to Covid-19 have been isolated, and every person they had contact with will be traced.
