Chairman, Muslim Community of Oyo State, Alhaji Kunle Sanni has urged the Nigerian youths not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs come 2023 general elections.
He gave the charge in an interview with News Live Nigeria reporter at a function in Oyo recently.
The OYSMC chairman said this is necessary in respect of the youths’ conduct before, during and after the elections, noting that the success of the elections is a function of the youths’ belief, resolve and conduct.
He said, “I want to appeal to our youths who are easy tools in the hands of some unscrupulous politicians not to allow themselves to be used. If any politician invites them for thuggery, they should be bold to ask them to invite their own children too.
They should not be used. They should think about their own future. Because if anybody takes part in thuggery and hooliganism and get killed, those who persuaded and, or used them to go about maiming, burning will still be alive to enjoy the aftermath of the elections.”
However, the chairman reiterated his hope and confidence in peaceful elections, praying that everything will go as planned; there won’t be any breach of peace and tranquility in Nigeria.
“As far as 2023 election is concerned, we as a Muslim Community can’t take side. We belong, and our members belong to different political parties. Our prayer is that everything will go well.
There will be peace and tranquility. There will be no thuggery and hooliganism. Everything will go as planned”, he concluded.
