Kwara: Salary clearance to be issued to teachers to check mate truancy

By Ridwan AREMU

Kwara State Government has said that it will authorize principals to start issuing clearance to teachers for payment of their salaries to enhance effective service delivery and checkmate high rate of truancy in schools.

The Chairman, Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Mallam Abubakar Bello stated this during the monthly meeting of the Executive Members of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Kwara State Chapter held in Share, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State.

Mallam Abubakar Bello expressed worry and concerns over high rate of truancy among teachers occasioned by the e-payment system.

He assured that power would be given back to principals who would be issuing clearance before salary of any teacher is paid, which according to him, would help in monitoring and correcting excesses of some of the teachers.

Mallam Abubakar Bello also appealed to principals to give maximum support to the newly recruited teachers deployed to their various schools as they are new on the job.

In an address, the ANCOPSS President, Alhaji Toyin Abdullahi, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for timely payment of the salaries of the recently recruited teachers and also expressed appreciation to members of the ANCOPSS for keeping to the zero tolerance of examination malpractices.

Alhaji Toyin Abdullahi, who paid an on the spot assessment visit to Agbonna High School, Share, that was recently burnt down, expressed shock at the level of damage done and appealed to the state government and well to do individuals to assist in rebuilding the school urgently.

Also, Chairman, Share Zone of the ANCOPSS, Mallam Atunde Alao commended Kwara State Government for taking education to a greater height, saying that each school in the state got at least two of the recently recruited teachers.

He, however, appealed for recruitment of more teachers in core subjects and intervention in the area of infrastructural facilities in schools across the state.

The State Executive Council of ANCOPSS had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Olupako of Share, Oba Haruna Olawale Suleiman at his palace in Share, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
