Oyo: Health sector shines at inter-sectoral football competition

The health sector delivered an outstanding performance on Friday at the inter-sectoral football competition held at the Adamasingba sports complex, an event organised by the office of the head of service for all ministries and agencies in Oyo State.

Dr Ganiyu Abideen Adedayo (Pharm. Ganiyu), Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, explained that the competition was initiated to promote physical fitness, friendship and brotherliness among the state workforce.

The health sector contingent, mobilised and managed by Pharm. Ganiyu, comprised eight agencies: the Ministry of Health, the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board, the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, the Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA), the Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences (with two representations), and LAUTECH Teaching Hospital. Together, they fielded male and female football teams that put up a commendable performance throughout the tournament.

The male team finished in fourth position, while the female team distinguished themselves by emerging second overall. Their efforts were recognised during the medal presentation ceremony held today, where the Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde commended the Head of Service for the initiative.

Governor Makinde praised the competition for fostering unity across ministries and agencies and encouraged participants to sustain habits and practices that help them remain physically fit, stressing that a healthy workforce contributes significantly to effective service delivery.

The health sector’s participation and achievements underscore commitment, teamwork and the strengthening of camaraderie across its agencies.
