The 6th of December was set aside to mark the World Farmers’ Day, so, the Oyo zonal office of the Oyo State Library Board celebrated with all farmers across the globe with an impactful celebration today.
This celebration was geared towards ensuring that farmers are not exclusive from information and other distinguished services rendered by the agency and to bring about mutual discussion, foster information sharing, and food exhibition among others.
It officially started at about 9:00 am at the Oyo State Library Board premises Oke-Oroki, Oyo, and saw the cultural group from the Isale Oyo Grammar School led by Mr. Ademola Tunde Moses perform on stage to thrill the onlookers at the event.
In the address of the Oyo State Librarian ably represented by Alhaja (Mrs.) A.S. Akanbi, there’s no existence without farming and the library among other things can also help farmers in their job of providing food, the first primary basic need of man, for the people.
“We seek to act as first-aid for farmers and any predicament confronting them by referring them to the appropriate quarters where these predicaments would be contained,”, she opined.
In the same token, Pastor A.R. Babatunde of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, OYSADA, represented by Mr Odegbile O. S, did gladden the hearing of the attendees of the event and farmers alike that Farm estate would commence in Fasola where gari producers, poultry farmers, grains to mention just a few would be given the ample avenue to plant and produce and to make life better for themselves and the state.
Mrs Ogunjimi A.O welcoming the farmers…
To Mrs. Ogunjimi A.O., we are all farmers even though the quantity of farm produce may differ. She said the Oyo State Library Board decided to extend its information-sharing hand to the farmers having engaged other ‘public and private’ servants in the past.
She informed the ‘eager-to-listen’ farmers that books are very powerful housing the armour to fight any difficulty confronting anyone in the world but expressed her disappointment that Africans always turn their backs against books and the act of reading.
” The library is for all and sundry and everyone is welcome to the public library to come and read, learn, get enlightened and even solve problems,” she underscored.
She also added that readers especially farmers should come whether literate or illiterate, old or young, professional or artisan to the public library as facilitators are readily in place to, explain and run them through scholastic informational materials available to the public library.
