The Power Of “Naqlu” and Prophetic Spiritual Words On Life’s Vicissitudes | Dr Adekunle Mikail

The early Muslims or the believers in the words of God, the glorious Qur’an and the Sunnah, tradition of the prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam), had not overcome and temporized the ups and downs that accompanied their lives except with their adherence to the formulas the prophet (salla-llahu alehi wasalam) who was sent to them had prescribed for them.

These formulas have been in the forms of practice of certain canonical rules, speeches and traditions which the prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) himself had been divinely given by God Himself to ward off evil or to elicit fortune while living.

Some of these formulas have been derived from deep pondering and deliberation on the messages in some certain verses of the glorious Qur’an or the statements of the prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam), himself, without no addition or redaction on the parts of those who use them .

While some of these spiritual words or Naqlu in the words of the adept in the fields are derived from the ways a certain or some men of God had deployed the verses and words of the prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam), when confronted with tribulations which no man can avert not to happen as they are parts and parcels of life Constitution, only that their effects can be cushions with the portent words of God and that of His Prophet, He has given the knowledge of these malices.

As pointed earlier, Naqlu are Spiritual antidotes to life’s malices in the common language of the believers in the words of God and the apostleship of Prophet Muhammad ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam).

But Alas, in the true sense of it, it is the prayer in forms of words of mouths, written or tradition of the prophet (salla-llahu alehi wasalam,) which the prophet himself has deployed or used to be praying against the pains embedded in life or what he used to beseech God for His mercy, blessing and security, everyday as the needs arose.

It is when these words, statements, speeches and traditions are transmitted from the prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) to his coteries of near and far companions, to those that came after the companions to generations and generations after these blessed believers in God and to the generations before us that these litany of prayers were codenamed “Al-Naqlu”, i.e what is transferred from one person to another”!

When these were going on, the Sufists and their allies who were very fond of writing and rewriting, explaining and preserving these prayers-formulas continuing memorizing them as they were also documenting them so as to save them from being gone into extinction. In addition, the large parts of these spiritual warfares and protections became the preserve of the sufi-saints, sages and those in the fields of Islamic knowledge and scholarship alone, as they were the only categories of people who had dedicated their lives into the knowledge of Islam.

Only small lines or little of these bodies of prayers were exposed to by the novices despite their being Muslims themselves.

It was at this juncture that untoward embellishments and additions started to creep in into these bodies of prayers by the new converts who introduced words and liturgy from their former religions to them and the pristine efficacious words given to the Muslim by Prophet Muhammad ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) started little by little loosing their efficacy!

And it is at this point in time that those words that have no meaning or traces to prophet Muhammad ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) entered into the Islamic Naqlu.

Besides, it was at this point in time, that the ignoramus in this part of the world also mixed their syncretic incantations to the bodies of these Islamic prayers through the use of the Ajami style of writing which was a noble and novel way of writing Yoruba and Hausa or other languages with the use of Arabic letters, at the time ,when the users of these languages had not developed their own native ways of writing their languages.

Not only that, they also introduced, the used of prohibited materials ( both animal and and non-animal to Islamic methods of healings and therapies !

In addition, the Islamic Naqlu being discussed here is different from the use of herbs and animals’ parts which have parts of them authorized in Islam as solutions to human ailments, as parts of it are prohibited.

It is instead , prayer in the forms of words, statements and traditions which are prescribed by Prophet Muhammad (salla-llahu alehi wasalam) to the faithful as fortifications against evils and harbingers of the good of this world and the hereafter!

The Islamic Naqlu , therefore, is not a prohibited material to be discarded or condemned to oblivion which should not be utilized for the benefits of the faithfuls whenever there are needs to do so as some people are campaigning for this time.

What is to be done is to teach the Muslim what is original and the one devoid of syncretic words and allusions among these beneficial Prophetic and the righteous inheritances instead of condemning them in their totality because of the activities of the charlatans who have ignorantly introduced what are not parts of them to them!

What I’m driving at in a simple language here, is that Naqlu is real and that our prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) had left for us, bodies and uncountable statements and speeches which when a dedicated Muslim makes them his or her habit to adhere to its practice in the morning, afternoon and night, he or she will be much more blessed, merciful and prosperity-filled than others who do not adhere to it!

A travelling into some of these blessed Naqlu will reveal the secrets behind how our predecessors were able to conquer the spiritual, scientific and economy worlds of those who deliberately set themselves as their enmities in the past, despite their little means, lean purses, and difficult terrains they had operated.

For instance, we are all familiar with the beautiful statement:” Lahaola walla-kuwata illa-billah” ! It has even been introduced to be part of bodies of local and ”Islamic” music in this part of the world but despite this, and beyond singing ” walahaola loyomi” ( it was the statement: ” walahaola”, that saved me), much have not been benefited from it!

The reason being that, it is only when there is crisis Muslims remember to recite the statement whereas the prophet (salla-llahu alehi wasalam) has taught us the secret of enjoying the grace of God every time by knowing Him at the time of ease so that He will know us at the time of difficulty!

On ” Lahaola walla-kuwata illa-billah, the prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam ) had said:

” Be incessant in the recitation of ” Lahaola walla-kuwata illa-billah; for indeed, it is a part of the treasure of the Paradise!”

Imagine you reciting this statement always as prescribed by the prophet above, what do you think will be your lots at the time of ease and difficulty if this easy to say and simple at tongue speech is at your tongue every time! It means you will be endowed with a tinge of the treasure of the paradise here and in the Hereafter, you will receive it in abundance!

Furthermore, it is said that the prophet (salla-llahu alehi wasalam), whenever one of his children or wives was sick, he would expel the sickness with the recitation of al-mahudhathu, i.e verses that are employed against evil spirits such as: Kuli- ahudhu- birabbi-l-falaq, kuli-ahudhu -birabbi-nnasi and ayatul-Kursiyy”

In another Naqlu he said: ” wear the sweater or the cloak of remembrance ( al-adhkhari) recitation of God’s names often such as saying: subhanallah wa-lihamdu -lillah, wala-ilaha, illa-billah wallau-akbar, walahaola walla-kuwata illa-billah) so that you are protected from the evils of the jinn and men and cover your souls with Istigfar ( the saying of astagafurullah inna-llaha kaana gafarah), so that you will be saved against the sins of the night and day!”

In another Naqlu, he soliloquies:
” The doing of goodness protects from wrestling of evil ( evil does wrestle with man so that it takes his fortune from him), and secret Alms-giving kills Allah’s anger while strengthening of the family ties increases man’s longetivity in life.

And every goodness is Alms-giving while the people of goodness in this life are the people of goodness in the Hereafter as the people of evil in this life are the people of evil in the hereafter!”

Readers! Reflect on all the good traditions the prophet ( salla-llahu alehi wasalam) had prescribed for the mankind above and ponder if man will adhere to it strictly, how fortunate he will be?

Imagine, if he does good, that will be his saving grace from the wrestling of his fortune from him by Satan and if he gives alms covertly without announcing it, the fire of God’s anger will be quenched in his stead and when he ties the rope which binds his family together, he will be given more grace to live longer than he had been destined while his goodness will make him one of the good people in the Hereafter!

Then what has befallen man at this period of his living. Or contextually put, what is ailing the so-called man of God or it is god of man, who, for the reason of sustenance or for seeking power, who forgets the power of Naqlu instead of resorting into voodooism or bewitching another soul or killing him in the name of making concoction so as to be powerful?

What can a supposedly man of God tell his principal, the Almighty God when they see eye ball to eye ball now on the day of judgement, for killing, using and preparing a power-eliciting concoction with another man’s head, scrotum, hands, or any other parts of his divinely sculptured body when he can enmesh his own soul in the doing of goods and recitation of the naturally Islamically Naqlu and what he is seeking will be given to him without having the unfortunate destiny of murdering or maiming other soul before he can be blessed here, in this passing Adamic plane?

Then I’m Amazed On Four People For Forgetting Four Things:

I’m amazed on the one who is afflicted with a distress how he forgets prophet Zun-nun’s words (alehi Salam) as follows:

” Laila-illa- Anta , Subhanaka inni-kuntu minna-salimina” and Allah said about him for saying the above:

” So we listened to him: and delivered him from distress: and this do We deliver who have faith” _Qur’an 21/87-88

I’m amazed by the one who is afflicted with harm how he has forgotten prophet Ayub’s ( Job) words :

” And Job, when he cried to his Lord ” truly harm has seized me, but you are the most merciful of those who are merciful,”

And Allah said on his matter for saying the above:

” So we listened to him: We removed the harm that was on him, and we restored his people to him, and doubled their number, – as a Grace from ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who serve us. _ Qur’an 21/ 84-85

And I’m bewildered on who is afraid but who forgets the words of those to whom they said ( the companions):

” Those to whom men said: ” A great army is gathering against you, so fear them”: But it ( only) increased their faith : they said : “Asbuna-llahu wani’mal-waqilu”( ” for us Allah suffices and He is the best Guardian”

And for saying the words of faith above, Allah said :

” And they returned with grace and bounty from Allah: no harm ever touched them: for they followed the good pleasure of Allah : and Allah is the Lord of bounties unbounded !”

And I’m surprised by the action of the one who is fearing the deceit of man but who has forgotten the words of prophet Musa against Fir’aon and his people when he says:

” So you shall remember what I say to you, and I entrust my affairs to Allah ( wa- uwafidu- amri ila-llahi inna-llaha Bashiru- bil- ‘Ibadi), surely , Allah sees the servants”

And for saying that , Allah said:
” So Allah protected him from the evil ( consequences) of what they planned against him and most evil punishment overtook Fir’aon’s people!

Oh! Readers, why can’t you resort to the Naqlu of Zun-nun above ( Lailaha illa-anta Subhanaka inni-kuntu minna-salimina) or that of Prophet Ayub ( Anni-masaniyani duru wa-anta ar-hamu-rahimina), or that of Prophet Muhammad and his companions ( Asbiyya-llahu wani’mal-waqilu) or that of prophet Musa

:(” Wa-uwaFidu Amriy ila-llahi inna-llaha Bashiru-bil-‘Ibadi), whenever something afflict you and see how Allah will remove distress from you as He had done for those people before you, instead of resorting to unnatural ways of solving the existential problems that afflict you!
