Tinubu won battles you didn’t win – Pastor Bakare tells critics

The political scene in Nigeria witnessed a twisted turn of reactionary comments on Sunday, the 27th of December when Pastor Bakare, the senior pastor of the Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, replied his critics that their speeches and statements were based on mere emotional assessment and hold no water.

Earlier on the 24th of December, Mr. Bakare praised Tinubu for the political battles he fought while others were mickey mouse in the political space. He affirmed that God does not need anyone’s opinion or permission to put Mr. Tinubu in a hall of fame.

In his sermon tagged ‘An Idle Man’s Brain Is The Devil’s Workshop’, Mr. Bakare likened Tinubu to Jephthah in the Bible, saying despite the rough stories behind his birth, he rose to power to deliver Lagos and almost all Southwest states from the onslaught of the PDP from 1999 to 2007.

To point out, Mr. Bakare reiterated that his commendation of Tinubu’s political success was not an approval of his lifestyle. He revealed that his admonition of Jagaban is based on the fact that he won political battles many could not win. His political dexterity was no match for anyone in the country. In fact, the success of Mr. President in 2015 and 2019 would not have been possible without the tactics of Mr. Tinubu.

Mr. Bakare claimed that Mr. Tinubu had invested in people, positioned his people in strategic places in the country, and should not be criticized for having a share of what he had laboured for. While stressing the fact that while many of his critics were sleeping, Tinubu was busy working for the future of the Yoruba nation and Nigeria at large.

Bakare while describing his critics as ‘undertakers’, urged them to face the business of the day as their opinions are mere figments of imagination. He also fed response to the allegations of bribery against him, saying he is too rich for that. He urged them to bring out proofs of him receiving bribes from Tinubu, should they have any.

He said, ” One would have thought the whole message of over an hour would be listened to so that the context of the clip that went viral would be listened to before judgement is passed by those who have considered us to have taken a 360-turnaround compared to the thoughts we had taken previously about the man many love to hate and many hate to love.

“Instead, the bathwater and the baby were both thrown out by some self-appointed undertakers who think the way forward in our dilemma as a nation is to uproot the tares and separate them from the wheat long before the harvest time ordained by God.

” The same undertakers wilfully forget that the current mixture of the bad, the good, and the ugly in the polity are a result of the negligence of our past and present leaders, who slept on duty and allowed the enemy to sow the tares while the good man had planted good seeds on the ground.”

He also replied those with a mixed reason as to why he decided to praise Tinubu- that judgement was in the hands of God, and people should not be in a hurry to judge anyone because of their past actions.

In his final remarks, he affirmed that none of the allegations of his critics were true enough to hold on to. He posited that it is imperative at this point in our nation to celebrate Tinubu as a Yoruba man because his critics are only interested in bringing him down. And interestingly, they cannot match Tinubu’s success in the political scene.
