A lecturer at the Federal College of Education, SPED, Oyo, Dr Jim Salaam, has warned the womenfolk against keeping bad companions, as doing so has detrimental effects in this life and the life to come.
This was the hallmark of her lecture titled, Effects of Keeping Unhealthy Companions at the Joint Tarbiyyah organised by Al-Mu’minaat (The Believing Women Organisation), Oyo East Local Government.
She harped on the need for good and virtous friendships for, having bad company may ruin one’s happiness and life, especially our children’s.
Dr Jim Salaam said no doubt, keeping the company of bad friends is a great risk and an evident affliction that exposes one to different forms of evil and danger in the worldly life and the hereafter.
Thus, it is due on a Muslim to beware of bad friends and keep away from them. In order to do so, the guest lecturer suggested that all avenues abetting such should be eschewed in its entirety.
She said children, particularly teenagers are entangled in the web of social vices, suggesting that only purposeful parenting can safe the world from further sinking into total destruction.
“Develop healthy relationships with your children. Get initial details from your kids about their circle and group of good friends.
However, it’s not an easy job to do. At times, communication gap grows between you as well as your child to a terrifyingly lower degree.
With such situations, children usually go to their peer group or close friends to find the attention that you haven’t given to them.
In case, your children are in good company, it’s good for them. However, there is a danger if your children are going with the irresponsible children”, she concluded.
Highlight of the programme include vocational training on how to produce cocoa tea.
Dignitaries at the programme include Hajia Hanifah Abdulsalaam, a lecturer from the college of Agriculture, Igboora, Mrs Hamzat A, and Hajia Zulikhat Abdulsalaam.
