Yoruba nation agitation: Police arrest suspects over Oyo gov’s office invasion

Not fewer than eighteen suspected Yoruba Nation agitators, on Saturday, were arrested by the security personnel for their alleged role in the invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, the state capital.

According to the Oyo State police command spokesman Osifeso Adewale, twenty suspects have been arrested so far, while several amunition were also recovered from the agitators.

“In all, (20) twenty suspects have been arrested in possession of; (3) three pump action guns, (291)two hundred and ninety-one life cartridges, (2) two expended cartridges, (67) sixty-seven cutlasses, (5) five bulletproof vest, (6) six pair of boots, (10) ten megaphone (public address system),(3) three Oodua styles beret caps, (7) seven belts, (11) eleven Oodua Nation army camouflage uniforms, (1) one unregistered Nissan Urban Caravan bus and (3) three tvs motor motorcycles,” the Oyo State police command spokesman Osifeso Adewale said in a statement.

Some suspected Yoruba Nation agitators, on Saturday, invaded the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, the state capital.

Earlier, some Yoruba Nation agitators had, on Saturday morning, invaded the Secretariat and took over some parts of the area.

An old man with grey air and a middle-aged man bearing Yoruba Nation flags whose identities could not be confirmed as of press time were arrested by the police

Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Online correspondent that the suspects were armed with amulets and some charms while singing solidarity songs claiming they wanted the Yoruba Nation.

The Security operatives did not allow reporters to interview them but the aged man was heard claiming he was the father of the Yoruba Nation.

The suspects have been taken to the State Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan, for further questioning.
