Sultan of Sokoto announces end to Ramadan

Sultan of Sokoto and President-General Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced Friday 21 April, 2023 as first day of Shawwal, signifying the end of Ramadan 144AH.

Muhammad Abubakar Sa’ad, said the crescent to mark the end of Ramadan fasting has been sighted.

Declaring the new moon Thursday night at his Palace in Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar said the new moon was sighted in various parts of the country including Yobe state.

He, therefore, urged Muslims all over Nigeria to cease to fast as no one is permitted to fast on Sallah day.

The Sultan congratulated the Muslims for successful completion of the month-long fasting period and prayed for God’s guidance for the newly elected leaders of the country towards sustainable peace and stability.

Sultan equally asked The Almighty Allah to help us in achieving harmonious relationship that will foster development, irrespective of religious or tribal differences.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has declared Friday, April 21 and Monday, April 24 as Public Holidays to mark Eid el Fitr.
