Eulogy for Nigeria at 60

Nigeria is the only disaster that befell its citizens. It is a failed state; an embarrassment to human intellect. The Nigerian state proudly survives in chronic despair. Here, since the mid 60s, the glorious reign of reason has come to an involuntary halt.

But Nigerians pretend as though all is well, as they learn to live in a shambolic era; a state of nature, where life is tense, solitary, nasty, brutish, poor and short. The social contract is thus finally collapsed. In Nigeria, today is bitter and tomorrow is clouded in uncertainty.

The glory of Nigerian students who exhibited the best academic performance is rather sustained by empty dreams. But the stinking ego of the house mates of Big Brother Naija is publicly nourished with heroic applause.

The jobless are the affluent. The hardworking are the paupers. Girls are bitches. Boys are swindlers. Youths are thus inspired by the jobless men of affluence. This jungle crafted by Lugard is a mere platonic world of form, where falsehood is nurtured by the glamour of pseudo truth.

I wish I could be anything but a citizen of a nation harbouring this crumbled value. But then, I have been created a Nigerian. I should rather strive to work with like minds and cause a change in my country.

I pray my homeland shall stand again and regain its values. O’ Allah, heal my country!
